Cash Access UK partners with Tesco to host Wath upon Dearne Banking Hub

Published on 26 January 2026

Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect access to cash across the UK, has confirmed the banking hub in Wath will be moving soon to its long-term home in a brand new, first of its kind, custom-built site in the Tesco car park on Biscay Way.

Work to prepare the new banking hub in the car park will begin at the end of January and the new hub should be installed and up and running in just a matter of weeks and is due to open to the public in March. In the meantime, the temporary hub located at Montgomery Hall will remain open.

Customers of all major banks will be able to visit the hub any weekday between 9am-5pm to carry out regular cash transactions including cash withdrawals and deposits as well as checking balances or paying bills. Additionally, the hub also offers a community bank service where customers can talk to their own bank in a private space about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub:

  • Monday: Santander(am), NatWest (pm)
  • Tuesday: Virgin Money
  • Wednesday: HSBC
  • Thursday: Halifax
  • Friday: Lloyds

Wath’s banking hub was recommended following a community request from local MP, John Healey.

The hub at the Tesco site provides a sustainable, long-term solution and offers all the same services as the temporary hub. It is accessible, close to other amenities, a short distance from the high street, and provides free parking*.

Representatives from Cash Access UK will be at the Wath-upon-Dearne Tesco store on Monday 9 February to provide more information and answer any questions the public has about the new banking hub.

There are now five hubs open in South Yorkshire, with four other hubs operating in Dinnington, New Rossington, Penistone and Thorne. Last month, the 200th banking hub opened in Billericay in Essex.

We’re delighted to be working with Tesco to bring a new type of banking hub to the community, which ensures continued access to cash and banking services for residents and local businesses. In some locations, it can be challenging to find a suitable property that meets all the requirements for a hub, so we’re really delighted to have developed an innovative and sustainable solution for the community. Just like all our banking hubs, customers will be able to visit the hub on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions, and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a community banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.
Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK

We are looking forward to welcoming a new banking hub pod, the first of its kind in the UK, to our Rotherham Wath-Upon-Dearne Extra. The new hub will bring easy access to banking services to our customers and to the wider community.
Ban Mahsoub, Partnerships Director at Tesco Insurance and Money Services

The news that Cash Access UK will partner with Tesco to continue face‑to‑face banking services in Wath is a significant step in safeguarding local community banking. I campaigned to secure a banking hub for Wath and have spent several months working with Cash Access UK to find a long-term solution to keeping this service. I’m pleased that our joint efforts have resulted in an innovative solution that ensures the hub remains easily accessible and close to the town centre. A big thank you to Montgomery Hall for hosting the temporary hub since September 2024 - it has been hugely invaluable to local residents.
John Healey, MP for Rawmarsh and Conisbrough
