X marks the spot at Brixham Banking Hub

The crew at this year’s Brixham Pirate Festival have given Cash Access UK a hearty thumbs-up after stashing the event’s spoils in their local Banking Hub.

The shipmates responsible for running the hub also got onboard with the festivities during the bank holiday weekend - May 4th-6th 2024.

Brixham’s Banking Hub officially set sail in December 2022 following the closure of the town’s last branch in September 2021.

A third of the town’s residents are over 65. Before the hub opened, people often needed to travel outside of Brixham for basic banking services.

Greeted with a rowdy “Ahoy!”, the Banking Hub Operator and community bankers from Barclays, NatWest, Lloyds and Santander quickly became local treasures. The banking hub buccaneers have well and truly marked their spot on the Brixham map.

"Arrr, the Banking Hub be a grand resource for us pirate bretheren! Convenient, friendly, and a fine place to stash our treasure." The Captain, Brixham Pirate Festival

Getting behind the festival and helping the motley crew stash their booty locally is just one example of how the hub is supporting the community of Brixham.

Open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and Saturday 9am -1pm, even landlubbers can use the Post Office counter service at 62 Forre Street to:

  • Withdraw and pay in cash and cheques
  • check their balance
  • pay utility bills
  • top up gas and electricity
  • access change-giving services (for small businesses)

People can also drop in for face-to-face parlay with a community banker from their bank on the day they’re in the hub.

The Brixham Pirate Festival began in 2002 when members of the community decided to create an event to liven up one of the quietest bank holidays of the year.

Since those humble beginnings, the festival has grown into one of the biggest pirate gatherings in the world. Each year, thousands of pirates descend on the town for a long weekend of seaside swashbuckling and shenanigans. All set against the authentic backdrop of the historic port.

Planning for the 2025 event is now underway and the captain is always looking for new crew members!
